Kermorgant ruled out for months

The ankle injury that Yann Kermorgant picked up in training last Thursday is more serious than originally thought.

A second scan on Monday revealed the Frenchman had fractured his ankle and faces being on the sidelines until the New Year.

Chris Powell will now have to review his striking options. Ricardo Fuller and Bradley Wright-Phillips would be the manager’s preferred pairing. However, the intensity and punishing schedule of the Championship, coupled with the duo’s injury history, may make it difficult for them to play in every game.

Powell’s option’s are limited. Jordan Cook, currently out with an eye ulcer, has yet to impress. Michael Smith is still very raw and though he has undoubted class, Danny Haynes is very injury prone. Scott Wagstaff has been used as an emergency striker but the standard is probably too tough for Wagstaff to be effective up front in the Championship.

Will Powell consider dipping into the loan market and can the club afford to pay another striker? If they can, Dany N’Guessan may again figure in Powell’s thoughts.

If money is tight and Charlton suffer another injury to one of their strikers, the manager may have to think about recalling the in form Leon Clarke from his loan spell at Scunthorpe.
